Amongst It is published by Joshua Taban Armstrong, ABN 50 041 155 776. We have zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) and child sexual abuse material (CSAM) on Amongst It. This page sets out our standards, what we do when we find it, and how to report it.
Amongst It is for adults only
Amongst It is only for people aged 18 and over. Everyone gives their date of birth before they can sign up, and the app checks it before an email address is asked for. An account with a date of birth under 18 that is not corrected within 24 hours is permanently deleted. If we learn that someone under 18 is using Amongst It, we close their account.
Events on Amongst It must not involve, target or be aimed at anyone under 18.
What is prohibited
By CSAE we mean any content or behaviour that sexually exploits, abuses or endangers children. On Amongst It, and in any contact that begins through Amongst It, you must never:
- create, share, request or link to child sexual abuse material, including photos, videos, drawings, text or computer-generated imagery depicting a minor in a sexual way;
- groom a child, or attempt to contact a child for a sexual purpose;
- sextort or threaten a child, or anyone, over sexual images of a child;
- traffic, advertise or solicit a child for sex;
- use an event, or contact details received through an event, to gain access to children for any of these purposes;
- sexualise children in any way, or promote, normalise or excuse any of the above.
These rules are part of our Terms of Use and apply to everyone, whether or not a child is actually involved.
How to report
If a child is in immediate danger, call 000 (or your local emergency number).
To report to us:
- In the app: open the event and choose Report this event, or, if you are organising, report the person from your event’s request list. You can add details in your own words, and you can block the person straight away.
- By email: [email protected] with “Child safety” in the subject line. Anyone can report this way, including people who do not use Amongst It.
Please do not send us, screenshot or forward any image you believe is child sexual abuse material — doing so can itself be an offence. Tell us where you saw it and we will deal with it.
You can also report directly to the authorities:
- In Australia, the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation (ACCCE): accce.gov.au/report
- The eSafety Commissioner: esafety.gov.au/report
- Outside Australia, your local police or the NCMEC CyberTipline: report.cybertip.org
What we do
Reports about child safety go to the front of the queue. When we become aware of CSAE or CSAM on Amongst It, we:
- remove the content and cancel any related event;
- close the accounts involved;
- report it to the Australian Federal Police through the ACCCE, and to other law enforcement where appropriate;
- preserve the relevant records so they can be provided to law enforcement, and cooperate with any investigation, in line with our Privacy Policy.
Amongst It does not let users upload photos or videos, and people only receive each other’s contact details once an organiser accepts a request to join an event. We keep these protections in mind whenever we add features.
Compliance with law
We comply with child safety laws that apply to us, including the Criminal Code Act 1995 (Cth), which includes obligations to refer child abuse material to the Australian Federal Police, and the Online Safety Act 2021 (Cth) and the requirements of the eSafety Commissioner. Our standards are informed by the Tech Coalition’s child safety best practices and Google Play’s Child Safety Standards policy.
